And…

Laura says I missed out mentioning she had a nervous breakdown last weekend.   ‘And I don’t think it is over..’  More on this later.

I love Lucy + Laura

‘I feel like Lucille Ball in the chocolate factory,’ said Joan as she and Kerry juggled feeding ‘The Beast’ (AKA the Norwalk Juicer), making gruel and keeping up with Laura’s relentless Gerson schedule. Our Weekend Warriors are our saviors. In the past few weeks, Laura’s had a hair trim from Nicki, Reiki from visiting master…

Sasha + Adam

Our friends Leigh and Regina brought over their new twins Sasha + Adam and it was love at first sight! Reg, Laura and Adam, Regina and Sasha, Nicki Sasha and Lucie Leigh and Adam, Regina and Sasha

Stinky Pits

Laura – I always prided myself on having armpits that didn’t smell.  I used a crystal rock as a deodorant and it really curtailed the odor. Little did I know that it contained aluminum which is highly toxic. Like most people I thought if it didn’t contain aluminum chloride it was okay to use. Well it’s…

Parks

Laura and I love to sit under the trees in Central Park, Washington Square Park and Carl Schurz Park – really any park with a tree and a few birds will do. Since the end of May, when Laura was diagnosed with cancer, I’ve only had 2 full days off. Each time I’ve cycled to…

Good news

Good News!  After a couple of nail biting days, my mum is rallying and the bypass operation was successful. Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers.  Your love and support buoyed us up through an unbelievably hard week for both mum and Laura who has been undergoing a very intense flare up.  The Gerson clinic…

Waiting

Waiting for signs that Laura is healing.  Waiting for news about my mum’s operation. It requires the patience of a saint.  And on days like today it feels overwhelming. Probably due to the stress, Laura and I are both achey, tired, sniffly and generally under the weather. The good news is the nurses say that…

Tumor Necrosis

In The Gerson Therapy book (2001) one patient Kent Gardner describes his throat tumor when it starts to die off as ‘rotting in my throat..it produced a constant, horrible smell unlike anything I had ever experienced – even after working for 24 years as a taxidermist!’ Eventually it fell off and he swallowed it. Sounds disgusting…

Operation Update

Mum’s triple bypass heart surgery is rescheduled for Monday September 16th. Once again we’re asking anyone who feels able to send up a prayer, good energy or healing positive thoughts for my mum. We know your love and prayers make a difference Mum in the Highlands of Bonnie Scotland (her homeland).

Coffee Enema Problems

This week Laura developed problems doing her coffee enemas. She had acid reflux (burning from her throat to her stomach) and has been unable to hold the coffee/chamomile tea mix in for the full 12 minutes.  She is already on a special soothing formula of 6 oz of coffee concentrate, 8 oz of chamomile tea…

Food Porn

I’m not making this up.  Laura is sitting in front of her computer shouting ‘Show me the lamb!’  She has just spent the best part of the day poring over food porn;  watching New York Times dining videos and salivating over pastrami sandwiches.  ‘Oooh baby does this one look good,’ she just squealed. You decide..

Forest Hills Housewife

Laura’s photographs of her mom’s depression and beauty obsession are her most collected work. These images, which date from the late 70s/early 80s are in the collections of the International Center of Photography, Brooklyn Museum, Museum of the City of New York and the Queens Museum. Laura started a new series of mother portraits in…

A Visit From Mom

Laura’s mom Toby came to visit today and Laura curled up in her lap. ‘I felt so safe.  I haven’t lain in my mother’s lap since childhood when we would watch Hedy Lamarr and Joan Crawford movies together.’ Toby is 83 and has dementia, so she changes stories around a bit nowadays. Today she told old…

Delay

We just learned that mum’s operation was rescheduled at the 11th hour.  A double lung transplant emergency took precedence.  She is home having tea. She was super calm all day and ‘felt very loved’ being enveloped in all the kind messages and prayers.

Love

Saw a beautiful white dove in Carl Schurz Park this morning, the symbol of love and peace. While Laura and I wait for news of my mum, here’s one of the most beautiful ruminations on love – “If I speak in the tongues of mortals or angels, but do not have love, I am just…
